JOB TITLE: Vocational Evaluator / Employment Advisor
JOB CLASSIFICATION: Full-Time; Variable Hours; Non-Exempt (40 hours per week)
REPORTS TO: Career Development Program Coordinator
JOB PURPOSE
Provide comprehensive vocational and employment services to individuals with disabilities, including assessment, job development support, on-site training, and ongoing employment retention services. This position combines vocational evaluation, career exploration, and individualized employment planning with hands-on job coaching, workplace accommodation, and behavioral support to promote successful community integration and competitive employment outcomes.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Vocational Evaluation & Planning
- Conduct interviews and gather background information to evaluate clients at all stages of the vocational process.
- Assess employment strengths, limitations, interests, disability adjustment, and insight using testing, simulated, and actual work experiences.
- Screen, analyze, and interpret medical, psychological, social, educational, and employment records.
- Prepare vocational evaluation reports with functional, realistic goals, objectives, and employment recommendations.
- Assist in the development, implementation, and follow-up of Individual Support Plans (ISP) and individualized employment plans.
- Provide career exploration, compensatory strategy training, and pre-vocational task development.
Employment & Job Coaching Services
- Conduct job analysis, environmental, ergonomic, and safety evaluations of employment and training sites in accordance with ADA standards.
- Provide on-site orientation, instruction, and job coaching to clients to ensure skill acquisition and retention.
- Train clients in appropriate work behaviors, social skills, and workplace expectations.
- Implement positive behavioral support plans and behavioral modification strategies; provide crisis intervention as needed.
- Recommend and coordinate adaptive equipment and assistive technology to support job performance.
- Provide mediation between clients, supervisors, and co-workers to support successful workplace relationships.
Additional Duties
- Provide guidance and counseling related to adjustment to injury or disability, emotional issues, interpersonal challenges, and vocational barriers.
- Educate employers and training sites regarding disabilities when appropriate.
- Communicate effectively with clients, families, supervisors, referral sources, funders, and community partners.
- Organize and facilitate individual or group discussions related to vocational readiness and employment skills.
- Develop and maintain volunteer, internship, and employment sites within the community.
- Market program services and build community relationships to promote employment opportunities and inclusion.
- Refer clients to appropriate community resources, including job services, SSI/SSDI benefits information, and vocational supports.
- Complete all required documentation, reports, and paperwork accurately and in a timely manner.
- Maintain compliance with CARF standards and all applicable federal, state, and local regulations.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and orderly work environment.
- Follow all facility, department, and personnel policies and procedures.
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned by the supervisor.
JOB SPECIFICATIONS
EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor's Degree in a related field preferred; equivalent experience working with individuals with disabilities considered.
- Prior experience with disability populations, vocational rehabilitation, social services, or head injury populations strongly preferred.
- Knowledge of vocational evaluation, job analysis, behavioral supports, and job service resources required.
- Knowledge of SSI and SSDI benefits preferred.
SKILLS & REQUIREMENTS:
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Strong organizational, interpersonal, and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to work independently in community-based settings with flexibility.
- Proficient in basic computer and documentation systems.
- CPR and First Aid certification required (training provided upon hire if needed).
- Reliable transportation, valid driver's license, and auto insurance required.
- Regular and reliable attendance required.
