OVERVIEW AND ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

 

The Senior Tax Systems and Compliance Analyst will complete functions related to the analysis and programming of Acumen’s employment tax system and operations ensuring they follow established guidelines and laws. Serve as a technical point-of-contact and work with assigned subject matter experts for functional areas in Payroll, Finance, and Information Technology to ensure efficient maintenance and operation of employment tax systems. Provide for optimal functionality, ensure data integrity, provide useful reports, implement system changes, and analyze data flows and process improvement opportunities.

  • Review, create and update documentation for employment tax processes, applications, and system testing procedures
  • Test accuracy of employment tax policies
  • Develop and review payroll user procedures, guidelines, and documentation
  • Assure system is compliant with tax and wage laws
  • Write, maintain and support a variety of employment tax reports and queries
  • Ensure modification and review upgrades are successfully tested before implementation to the live environment
  • Identify and make corrections to system issues with employment tax calculations
  • Deliver functional and educational support regarding payroll processes and systems/modules
  • Review analytical results before changes are made to production
  • Leads in rules change testing, upgrades and enhancements, implementing table changes, coordinating permission and executing tax period closing
  • Report and resolve systems issues with vendors
  • Review documented processes and results
  • Leads in development of standard reports for ongoing needs
  • Help maintain data integrity by running queries and analyzing data
  • Develop ad hoc queries as needed, working with staff to identify information requirements
  • Work with Information Technology to resolve complex reporting issues
  • Ensure functional requirements and process solutions are understandable and communicated to overall program teams
  • Work collaboratively with internal/external departments and customers
  • Performs all other job-related duties as assigned

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in business related field and equivalent combination of experience and training
  • 4+ Years’ experience in multi-state payroll/taxes and knowledge of domestic employer filing requirements
  • Advanced knowledge of payroll, employment taxation and accounting
  • Team leadership experience
  • Experience in systems implementation
  • Ability to read and interpret complex federal, state and local policies, legislative briefs, regulations and other written documentation as it pertains to tax compliance and filing matters
  • Analytical, technical, and tax accounting/technology skills with knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), tax compliance and corporate consolidated returns
  • Demonstrate excellent organizational skills with attention to detail, time management, task oriented, good interpersonal skills, patience, perseverance and follow-through.
  • Advanced level computer skills, including Microsoft Word, and e-mail proficiency
  • Strong Microsoft Excel with ability to manipulate data (VLookup, Pivot Tables, Charts)
  • Proficient in and has a good understanding of relational databases
  • Accuracy and the ability to handle responsibility with limited supervision
  • Excellent customer service skills
