OVERVIEW AND ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

The Human Resources Generalist is responsible for handling a wide range of human resources related tasks.  This individual maintains organization, flexibility, and enjoys the administrative challenges of supporting an office of diverse people and programs. The ability to interact with staff at all levels of the organization, in a fast-paced environment, sometimes under pressure, remaining flexible, proactive, resourceful and efficient, with a high degree of professionalism and confidentiality is crucial to the role. The Human Resources Generalist will have a can-do attitude, with a propensity to problem-solve, and a nature that looks for opportunities to suggest and implement improvements.

  • Conduct or participate in confidential meetings with managers and employees and maintain an objective view of the situation to find and facilitate the best resolution or outcome
  • Attend and participate in employee disciplinary meetings, terminations, and investigations
  • Advise and provide coaching to managers and supervisors in best employee relations practices and strategies for managing supervisor problems and employee grievances
  • Interpret and enforce company policies and procedures in an objective manner
  • Strong partnership to manage and conduct HR orientation and new hire onboarding programs
  • Assist with maintaining and implementing employee recognition programs such as new hire welcome gifts
  • Assist management team with the timely administration of the annual review and performance management process
  • Develop and deliver trainings or workshops related to HR topics and HR compliance for employees and managers
  • Process and/or review personnel changes including but not limited to: new hires, terminations, salary changes, status changes, tax and banking changes through coordination with the payroll department
  • Manage correspondence and responses in a timely manner, including legal notices and government filings
  • Responsible for providing coaching and/or conflict resolutions for employment-related inquiries or situations that arise from employees and managers that are complex and/or sensitive in nature
  • Maintain compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, and recommended best practices; reviews policies and practices to maintain compliance
  • Manage or assist with the management of claims related to FMLA, ADA, and worker’s compensation
  • Manage and deliver company-wide communications through the use of e-mail and internal systems, ensuring accurate information concerning policies, documents, and changes
  • Provide support to the recruiting team and process as needed by facilitating the hiring of qualified job applicants for open positions; may also collaborate with departmental managers to understand skills and competencies required for openings
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • A minimum of 3 years as a well-rounded HR Generalist which includes the essential role functions
  • A minimum of 3 years demonstrated experience supporting managers/supervisors in best employee relations practices and strategies for employee grievances and employee relations issues
  • A Bachelor’s Degree in HR, Business, or related field of study preferred
  • SHRM-CP is a plus
  • Working understanding of human resource principles, practices, and procedures
  •   Thorough knowledge of employment-related laws and regulations
  • Demonstrates sound coaching and conflict resolution skills
  • Proficient with MS Office, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Publisher
  • Ability to remain organized while prioritizing tasks and to delegate them when appropriate
  • Able to work with minimal supervision
  • Ability to function well in a high-paced and at times stressful environment
  • Proficient with or the ability to quickly learn human resource information system (HRIS), and similar computer applications
